HINDENBURG
In 1936 and 1937, the Zeppelin Hindenburg was the quickest way to travel between the United States and Europe. LZ-129 Hindenburg dazzled the world as the latest in a series of advances in transoceanic transportation.
Between 1924 and the Hindenburg disaster in 1937, Zeppelins revolutionized transatlantic postal services by offering rapid airmail transport. Carrying and servicing mail and freight subsidized the giant airships’ flights. Hindenburg was the largest of them all, making the world’s largest flying post office, and passengers and crew enjoyed postal services and facilities aboard. This early transcontinental carriage of mail connected the world through airmail among many countries and continents.
Aluminum powder was mixed into the dope compound that was applied to the outer hull covering fabric of the LZ-129 Hindenburg.
Each timepiece contains rare duralumin metal that was originally part of the Marvin Krieger Collection, and a piece of the canvas fabric from the airship skin that was retrieved at the scene in 937 by journalist Harry Kroh is hand-mounted on the dial.
Fluorescence and phosphors create a glowing effect each time the UV-LED technology is activated.
